Veterans' Disability Appeals
Fortis Law, PLC is a firm dedicated to representing veterans and their survivors before the Department of Veterans' Affairs, including at the Board of Veterans' Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
Service Areas
Covering the entire appeals process from your first rating decision to representation at the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (Court/CAVC).
CAVC Appeals
There is no cost to you for legal representation at the Court. Under the Equal Access to Justice Act (EAJA), VA pays for our legal fees and we only get paid if we win, so you can count on us to do our best for you.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
The psychological aftermath from experiencing a traumatic or life-threatening event can result in a lifelong disability.
Extra Scheduler Ratings
When your assigned rating fails to fully capture the severity of your disability, you can fight for a special rating outside of the schedule.
The PACT Act
Verify and ensure you receive benefits for presumptive conditions related to qualifying exposures.
Individual Unemployability (TDIU)
Veterans often receive ratings below 100 percent yet are still unable to work due to service-connected disabilities.
Retroactive Benefits
VA screws-up all the time. Do not let them off the hook for benefits you have been entitled to for years, or even decades.
Service Connection
There are multiple ways to obtain service connection for your disability. We work to explore each of those and maximize your benefits.
Dependency and Indemnity Claims (DIC)
There is no replacing our heroes, but there may be financial remuneration as a result of their service and sacrifice.

Your Attorney
Ashley C. Gautreau, Esq.
VA Accredited Attorney
Ashley has represented hundreds of veterans for well over a decade. To say she is excellent is something of an understatement; she has won favorable decisions for Veterans' cases that other law firms have missed, screwed-up or otherwise underserved their clients on.
Ashley maintains a strong, winning record on cases she has brought to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. As president of her class at the Detroit Mercy School of Law she volunteered for the Veterans' Law Clinic and worked with some of the top legal minds in the field until becoming one herself.
